Paris Galleries: Musee d'Orsay

Opened in 1986, the Musee d'Orsay is dedicated to great works of impressionist and post-impressionist art, its collection consisting of an amalgamation of peices fomerly belonging to the Louvre, the Musee du Jeu de Paume and the National Museum of Modern Art.  In here you can see a whole series of masterpeices by artists including Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne, Matisse, Renoir,   Degas and Manet.  Among the most famous on display are Van Gogh's Starry Night (above), Monet's Rouen Cathedral series and Manet's Lunch On the Grass.  The whole collection is housed in the shell of the former Orsay train station, located on the Seine's left bank, northwest of Ile de la Cite.
